Some Days Are Diamonds

I love the days that my guys sit on the bed with me, we snuggle and watch TV. Somehow an important question or quote always seems to work its way into our time together. (Let me say here that I know everything there is to know about the three walls I can see and the ceiling in my bedroom!) That's not what my guys want to talk about though. We get to discuss faith (or lack of); sex (and all the diseases, types and bents); friends; girlfriends; the Marine Corps; my marriage to their father and subsequent divorce; school and grades; stepbrothers; planes, trains and automobiles... but do we talk about my disease? Rarely. They want to talk about MY RULES: what I can and can't do, when I should and shouldn't do it----I suppose that gives them a measure of control.

But, oh those diamond days! The days we relax and just enjoy each other's company. We laugh and talk about the things they remember from their childhood: What vacations they loved, the times with cousins and close friends that bring full, whole body laughing fits, the Halloween outfits that they will tell their children about! Those are the diamond days that we are making out of the coal of cancer. They sparkle and shine, brilliant and flashing - more valuable than any stone ever set in a piece of jewelry. And like a diamond, they will last forever.
